Four Make a Family

I got to hang out with two gorgeous kids, one loving mom, and a very creative dad on Sunday night. Dad had lots of cool ideas, and I came away with a ton of great images. I love it when parents get into it with me, and we can brain storm on cool things to do - so much fun!

Here is the Whitley Sneak-Peek:

The soon to be Mr. & Mrs. Garcia

I had the pleasure of meeting this very attractive couple the other night (and they were nice, to boot). We went out to downtown Senoia and had a blast. I don’t think I have ever met such smiley people before, and it was contagious. They were willing to do what ever I ask them which made my life oh so much easier. And they even laid in one of my crazy, dirty fields, and let me get some cool intimate shots. Thanks again, guys!

Here’s your sneak peek:

Kids in the Park

I had a great time today doing a quick play-date shoot. The kids were cool and mellow, and there were no major meltdowns or injuries that you usually associate with large groups of kids. I got some great shots, and the venue was nice: I will be going back to take Will to play again soon. Hank the Tank is in the first shot. I am kind of jealous he has such a cool name like Hank. The second shot has the coolest playground equipment that I could not get over. It has this cool retro look to it. I even got to play with my new stool that I found at a great antique store this week. It is in the last shot with the über-cute and gorgeously-eyed child.

Cropping is Not fun ;)

While I am working out some new business kinks, I thought I would touch on a subject that I get a lot of questions about: CROPPING. Many of you ask why I don’t provide 8×10 enlargements, only 8×12. Well, I’ve recently started doing 8×10s… and now the question is, “Why do they look like crap?”

So I am going to give a little math lesson, so hold on to your seat. When shooting with our handy-dandy, fancy-shmancy cameras, we are shooting at a 2:3 ratio. That means for every 2 inches you go one way you must go 3 the other. This gives you a 4×6 photo which, when enlarged, results in 8×12, 10×15, and so on. Now 4×6 frames are easy to find, but 8×12? HA - Good luck! And, as much as I say you should mat your photos, I do understand that not everyone likes that look. This is possibly way more annoying for me than any of you - mainly because I shoot like a photo-journalist: chasing around after people and even filling the frame with beautiful faces.

So here are some examples to give you choices because choices make the world a better place.

This is the very beautiful Sydney acting as my example.

This is a full 2:3 ratio image. Notice her pretty long hair and cute green shirt - very nice. If getting an 8×12, as seen here, you would want to buy an 11×16 frame and have the photo matted.

Or you could get an 8×10 (below). Look at her arm: it’s all cut off. And the cute green shirt is almost gone, and the drama of her pretty long hair is lost. Now you could see how this could be okay with some photos - but not all.

Or you could do a white border with a simple black line, as seen here.

And here is a cool border - just for fun!

I hope this was helpful to everyone reading and makes things a little clearer.

Have a happy Monday.

technical changes

This site will be undergoing some technical changes this evening. The change will bring the servers that host the site back into our home (and more under our control).

The bad news is that there could be some down-time for the site. If you experience difficulties viewing the site over the next couple of days, just wait a day and try again. It should not take long to get everything straightened back out.

If we’re lucky then there will be no down-time at all, and the transition will be seamless. Keep your fingers crossed for us :)

The Three P’s

What is super cute, super loud, and totally fun? The three P’s; that’s who! I think I may have to sleep for a month to get my energy back, but it was totally worth it because these kids make some damn fine photos. As a photographer, I am always looking for that moment when I know the shoot is going well and I know that I will be satisfied when I get the pics back on the computer. Sometimes it is a smile or even a tear, and other times it is a tick on my butt. Or, like this time, sand in my underwear. I am still shaking it out, but it was the photo-gods’ way of saying, “fine job today.” So here’s to getting sand in your bum! Have a great weekend.

Baker Mania

I had the pleasure of photographing the nicest people in the world on Saturday. Seriously, we had a great time, and it was all because they were just too much fun - and up for anything. Here is a sneak peek at some of my fav’s from our session.

I nearly forgot one, and it is my Favorite with a capital F. It is so them:
